PART 4

PART 4

Rodrigo had forgotten something important.

Although his family lived there…

The surveillance contract belonged to the property owner.

Me.

Camera 1 showed the dining room.

Camera 4 showed the staircase.

Camera 7 showed the foyer.

We watched in silence as Evelyn raised her glass.

We heard every word.

“Her inability to get pregnant is punishment…”

My hands trembled.

Then came my response.

Then Rodrigo walking across the room.

Then—

The slap.

Crystal shattered exactly as I remembered.

Martin paused the video.

“Eighteen witnesses,” he said quietly.

“No ambiguity.”

I stared at Rodrigo’s frozen face.

This wasn’t just divorce anymore.

This was evidence.

Meanwhile at the Mansion…
The birthday party had collapsed.

Guests were quietly leaving.

Evelyn stood in the living room waving her declined credit card.

“This is fraud!”

Rodrigo called the bank three times.

Each representative gave the same answer.

“The primary account holder removed all authorized users.”

Primary account holder?

Rodrigo frowned.

“There must be a mistake.”

“There is no mistake, sir.”

His uncle Harold slowly lowered his glass.

“Rodrigo…”

“Dad always owned these accounts.”

Harold looked uncomfortable.

“Your father lost most of his liquid assets before he died.”

Evelyn snapped toward him.

“What are you talking about?”

Harold sighed.

“I thought you knew.”

“No!”

“The anonymous investor who saved this house… wasn’t your husband.”

The room fell silent.

Rodrigo stopped breathing.

“Who was it?”

Harold answered with five words that changed everything.

“I think it was Elena.”

Midnight
By midnight my divorce petition was filed.

So was the request for an emergency protective order.

Martin handed me the final document.

“There’s one more decision.”

I looked down.

Notice to Vacate: 30 Days.

The mansion legally belonged to Northbridge.

Meaning Evelyn and Rodrigo were occupants.

Not owners.

Martin didn’t pressure me.

“You can destroy them,” he said.

“Or you can simply take back what’s yours.”

I thought about the woman I used to be.

The one who believed love meant protecting someone from every consequence.

Then I remembered our baby.

I remembered being called a punishment.

I signed the notice.

Not because I wanted revenge.

Because sometimes the only way to end abuse is to stop financing it.

At 12:03 a.m., the documents were electronically delivered.

Across Beverly Hills, Rodrigo’s phone vibrated.

He opened the email.

His face turned white.

And upstairs, Evelyn was still telling everyone that the house belonged to the Sanders family… completely unaware that, before sunrise, a court officer would be knocking on her front door.
